Hello! I am hoping someone has some recommendations for travel insurance and/or health/accident insurance for travel to Austria. I am required to have insurance coverage of a minimum of $50,000 for the duration of my six month stay with the Austrian visa type D. Ideally I would like to have some sort of insurance that would allow me to cancel nonrefundable flights if there is an issue in obtaining the visa. Thanks for any help anyone can offer! Best!
Wow....sure would be cool if an expat that lives there could give you some background info on this. For our regular travel insurance we go thru the broker "Squaremouth.com". You can buy any type of travel insurance that you want. Their site ( and sites like Insure-my-trip) allow you to sort policies/companies by your needs; ie. flight cancelation, repatriation back to the US if you get sick or injured, etc. For our last trip I had some specific needs so I called them while I was on line, and they directed me to lots of great choices. There are also insurance agents that specialize in the type of insurance that you want/need. One good resource might American Citizens Abroad. They list one broker that specializes in this type of insurance. http://americansabroad.org/issues/healthcare/aca-health-insurance/ These are some places to start. Let us know what you learn.
Go to the top of this page and in the "search" area, type in "travel insurance." There are tons of recommendations from many, many travelers. Have fun in Europe!
