Recommendations for tents at Oktoberfest!!!

We have just decided to go to Oktoberfest in Munich in September and are interested in suggestions for tent reservations. Rick Steve's tour book covers the event but not to the level of detail that we are hoping to acquire from other middle aged, but fun seeking, adults who have been there before!!!! Beer drinkers share your experiences!!!

They're all good, but in the Hippodrom tent they also play music non-German speakers can sing along with like "summer of 69, hey baby" etc.

Hi Patty, I checked a website for 2 big beer tents & none will take a reservation for 2, 6 or 8 people is the minimum; people have replied to my post saying, get there early (noon-ish) & there will be room; the Hippodrome tent e-mailed me back & said they do keep some tables open for small groups; have fun - Emilie

Just one persons opinion BUT the tents were extremely crowded. Was there 2 years ago and seemed to me the corporations had ALL the major tents "accounted for." In other words you'd be lucky to get into one let alone get a drink. I was very disappointed. It didn't feel like a true European festival. It was too "controlled."

Just a side note, but if you don't have your hotel, you'd better get a reservation QUICK!!! We will be there during the first few days (just by chance) and we couldn't find any hotels decently priced! We ended up making a reservation in Augsburg (about 30 min. away from Munich by train) so HURRY, HURRY, HURRY!

Forget reservations at this point. They're all gone. Arrive early and get a table on the deck of a bier tent if the tents are all full. If you go during the week you'll have a better chance of seeing the inside of some tents. Weekends are pretty crazy, but you can still find a seat outside if you look.

Working your way around to the back will get you a more quiet table.

Patience. A waitress will finally notice you, and you will be well cared for thereafter.

Sit by a local, or welcome a local to sit by you. Enjoy the cultural exchange. Bavarians are very warm and open.
