Our flight home out of Frankfurt is at 10:55 a.m. so for the night before I'm looking at Darmstadt or possibly another town near the Frankfurt airport. It will be an early morning for us so staying near, but maybe not giving up charm, is my goal. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Frankfurt is an entire 11 minutes train ride between the airport and the main train station. Add on a couple of minutes if you are starting someplace else in Frankfurt, like the Hauptwache or Konstablerwache. For charm, look in the Westend, neighborhood filled with gorgeous villas, built middle to late 1800's. Check out Hotel Beethoven, Hotel Goelz, Villa Florentina, Dirazi Guesthouse. If you want to be quite close to the train station, look at Hotel Nizza, one of my favorites, due to the loving care they have decorated this hotel in period style. http://www.hotelnizza.de/eng/index.html A little bit farther away, but only by a few minutes, Hotel am Berg in Sachsenhausen. http://www.hotel-am-berg-ffm.de/ Or in Bornheim, my favorite neighborhood:

I'd pick Wiesbaden over Darmstadt or why not Frankfurt itself? Mainz?

I don't know of any hotels in Darmstadt, other than the Maritim right by the train station. But don't think that Darmstadt is completely devoid of anything of interest. This was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Hessen, and even though it got the piss bombed out of it during the war, enough of the old royal splendor and Jugenstil survives to make it worth at least a quick visit. If you do stay here, check out the old royal palace and the artists' colony at Mathildenhöhe.
