Recommendations for flamenco show in Seville

Based on some initial research, folks have recommended Casa de la Memoria de Al-Andalus as a potential place to see a show? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, I would like an email address to contact Casa de la Memoria, and the only one I found on the Internet doesn't work ([email protected]). Also, for a stay in early September, will I need to make a reservation 1-2 weeks in advance at Casa to ensure a spot for 2?

Tamara,
Unfortunately, great flamenco, like great jazz, is not all that compatible with timetables. Most of the 'tablaos' are tourist dive. I have seen some good stuff at the Casa de la Memoria, but it tends to be more 'fusion-orientated' rather than purist flamenco. The Café Sol Cantante (C/ Sol, NE of the Pza. Encarnación) usually has a good show, and since most of the people who work there are flamenco students, they should be able to tell you where the hot 'peñas' are at the moment.

Enjoy your trip.

We have only been to one flamenco show in Seville and it was Casa de la Memoria. We loved it and will go back - and back. I guess it depends on what you want - we didn't want to do the whole night dinner and flamenco show thing. Casa de la Memoria is only 1 hour and in a very small intimate venue where you could almost touch the musicians and dancers.

I suspect for September you will need to book ahead -some times of the year they have 2 shows a night - 9pm and 10.30 pm but I know in Oct they only have the 9. At Xmas they had the two and many were booked out.

Seville is just gorgeous - you will love it.

We went to Los Gallos, which is recommended in RS Tour Guide for Spain. Bought our tickets one day in advance and showed them the RS book for two euro discount per ticket. It was a great show and one of the highlights of our stay in Sevilla.

Saw a flamenco recital at Casa de La Memoria a few years back and it was quite alright - not touristy at all...

I also visited the tablao "Los Gallos" a few times... it's not particularly cheap but you get a drink included. It's much more touristy... colourful dresses and all that, but it's not bad either. I have been listening to flamenco for years and believe I know quite a bit about it.. I probably wouldn't go to Los Gallos again unless I had people visiting me.. but anyway, it's not bad at all! It's an OK place for entertainment - some great artists started there but it's more entertainment than "real" authentic flamenco...

Tamara, I was tempted to say ...

"if you've seen one pink bird, you've seen them all." ...

(just joking, of course. Roseate spoonbills are worth a second show, however.)

.... What I really wanted to say is I hope you have a wonderful trip. Adios! P.
