Hi all,
I need an inexpensive place to stay for a night or two in Hamburg that is in a central locale. I'll be taking the train up from Berlin so if it's by the train station, even better. I know that usually isn't the best location as a rule but easy and cheap is what I'm after. TIA!
Well, because you probably won't get too many responses on Hamburg, I'll mention the place where I stayed, although it probably doesn't fit your cheap requirement. Hotel Baseler Hof, sits across the bridge from the Hauptbahnhof, sits right around the corner from the Binnenalster and has easy metro access if you don't feel like walking. The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've ever seen in Europe. BTW, unlike many cities, the area around the Hauptbahnhof is actually rather elegant. It sits right next to the main art museum and a stone's throw away from the two lakes. Now if you really want a more seedy location, there's this district called St. Pauli, that I understand is often mentioned with the words "ill repute".
Thanks Tom! I can't imagine a worse place than what I stayed in by the Naples station...whooo wee. But it was fun so maybe I'll check out the St. Pauli area. :) AND the other too...thanks again. :)
