Hi My husband and I in our 70's planning to visit Porto for a week in August 2013. We will do day trips out of the city by public transport. We like slow travel and that is why we choose to spend 7 or so days before moving on. However we are searching for a comfortable, clean hotel with spacious rooms at a reasonable price. We enjoying walking out for dinner in the evenings and I know that lots of areas of Porto are hilly so a hill at the end of the evening after dinner would be a problem. We always choose on location firstly, then comfort and price. During the day it is easy to either use public transport or rest in between the hilly parts. I am finding that so many of the hotels are around $180 or more without breakfast. Normally we travel all through Europe for about 100/120 euro a night. In the past we have stayed in apartments or b & b's to reduce the cost, however last year in Italy we had a medical emergency in the middle of the night, there was no one one site, the mobile phone had no coverage and we didnt speak the language. Luckily it all worked out OK in the end, but it made us more careful about where we stay. Any help really appreciated.
