Recommend hotel in Lisbon

Hello My husband and I are travelling to Lisbon in September. We are searching for a comfortable, clean hotel, that isnt noisy close to the Avenidue da Liberade to be close to restaurants at night. I know that certain areas of the city are very steep and hilly. As we are in our 70's we normally choose a hotel that isnt any further than 10 mins walk in the evening to restaurants and where we dont have a hill to climb on the way home. I have searched and searched and most are $180 - $200 Au or more without breakfast which is very high. We normally travel all through Europe with a budget of about 110-120Euro a day. We have never found anywhere as expensive as Portugal. Normally we would choose an apartment or a b & b but last year, when in Italy we had a medical emergency in the medical of the night. There was no one on site where we were staying, our mobile phone did not have any network coverage and we didnt speak the language. Luckily all turned out Ok and we managed to get an ambulance but it could have been dangerous situation. That has made us think more carefully about where we stay. Thanks

We like Residencial Florescente. You can check reviews at booking.com and tripadvisor.com. It is on a pedestrian street one block from Av.Liberdade and within walking distance to the train, bus, electric car, and metro stops. Also close to restaurants and Rua Augusta. It is a pretty flat area except for one block slightly downhill from Av.Liberdade. We are in our late 60s and enjoy this area. Good luck and have fun!

Hi Thank you for your reply. I had actually looked at this hotel but the reviews say that the rooms are very very noisy because of the bars in the street, plus they arent double beds but 2 singles pushed together with seperate sheets, (one of my pet hates) and that the rooms are very very small especially if you have luggage. We intend to stay 10 nights so that is a bit of a worry for us. Any advice re these things would be a great help. I know you cant always go by reviews but did read lots and lots about this hotel and that was what worried me most. Plus wasnt really sure if it was the right area. Thanks

You could ask for a room at the back. No view but quiet. We have stayed there 3 or 4 times and were always given a room at the back so don't know how noisy the front would be. Also, we have been told to ask for twin beds as the rooms are bigger since the beds are seperated. But if you want a double bed I guess at least some of them are two beds pushed together. Really can't remember as many European hotel rooms are set up that way and it's hard to keep track. As for the area, we liked it but others might not agree. You'll have to decide which you think is good for you and hope for the best, which is pretty much the way it always is.
