Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, clean hotel near the Frankfurt airport. I checked on-line and some of them (Sheraton) seemed way too expensive for one night prior to our flight home.

You can stay at the IBIS hotel Frankfurt Centrum only a few minutes walk from the train station where trains take you in 18mins into Terminal 1 every 10 minutes. Plenty of restaurants and riverfront outside seating places are nearby.If you must stay out by the airport try the NH Hotel Frankfurt Airport. Originally built in the early 90s the hotel has recently undergone complete renovation and now provides very chique and stylish rooms only 2km from the airport. Shuttle busses are provided.

Don't know if this is a possibility for you but we stayed the night before our flight home in Worms and another time in Mainz. The airport is to the south of the city so it was easy to get to (no going into the city). We prefered Worms but enjoyed Mainz also. As long as your flight is not first thing in the morning, I think it is a great option.
