I'm bringing 9 year old twins on the very long flight from San Diego to Frankfurt. As a special treat they will be bringing their gameboy on the flight. Once I get to Germany what will I need beside a plug adapter to recharge the game boy? Should I get it here or there? Ditto ---we will be in Paris and will need to recharge before we get home. Thanks for your suggestions.
Usually Computers and game boys already come with built-in adaptors so they can be recharged at 110 or 220V. Some of them even come with a European 2-round-pins-plug adaptor. Anyway, you'll need the same for Germany as for France.
Suzanne, go to a travel store and spend $4 for the adapter NOW. I left my adapter behind in a Paris hotel and was forced to embark on a fruitless odyssey in an attempt to replace it. You could possibly have better success, but why chance it?
Gameboy chargers are dual voltage, all you need is the adapter.
Look at the charger that came with the gameboy. Somewhere on that will be a designation of voltage. If it has something like 110--240 volts, all you will need is the round plug adaptor. My son took his Nintendo DS game with him last summer, and the charger worked fine. The same was true for my Iphone charger. Just look for that 110-240 mark.

dont know if this will help or not...but
iGO makes a very cool portable charger that runs on 2 AA batteries. The unit itself is just a little bit bigger than 2 AAs (like a biggish lighter). I connect the iGO iPhone adapter to the unit, attach to my device, et voila i can play and charge my iphone anywhere/anytime without an outlet (i get about 2 full charges per set of batteries). Figured would be handy to ensure my iphone doesnt die in flight, dont have to scrounge around for outlets in europe, etc.
The whole set was around ~35us (20 for unit, 15 for iphone adapter/tip). It will charger anything that has an iGO adapter (cell phones, maybe even a GB?). Will also be using it to keep my prepaid phone all charged up while on the go.
EDIT: they do make a tip for the GB advance SP, tip #A13 ~10us (found on their website).
Thanks for the advice. My GB Advanced SP is very old and the charger was not 110/240, so after the posts here I realized I needed a new charger. I found one at Game Stop (a game store). I also found new batteries at Radio Shack and have bought the adapter, and will use the duct tape idea to make sure I don't lose the adapter (ie so it doesn't get stuck in the wall). So I should be happily on my vacation, with twins who are oh so happy.
Thanks for the posts!
