Please share any suggestions for reasonably priced hotels in Paris, especially if they are near the metro route. My husband and I want to see the Louvre, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower once again; otherwise, we just want to wander and enjoy every minute - without paying a premium. Thanks for your suggestions.
We went on a Rick Steves Best of Europe tour last year and had a wonderful stay at www.hotel-duquesne-eiffel-paris.com/. nice rooms, close to the metro. Staff super-friendly.
My last few times in Paris, I've stayed at the Grand Hotel des Balcons: http://www.balcons.com/ It's not fancy, but in a very handy location, and inexpensive for its location. Just a clarification: there is not "the" metro route. There are 14 metro lines, and they pretty much cover the entire city. So, the issue is not being near a metro station, but: 1. Being near the Seine (hotels closer to it are more expensive) 2. Being near multiple metro lines (more convenient, as you can get more places with fewer changes).
3. Being near certain landmarks (this is less useful-some people say they want to be right next to the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, but how many times are you going to go visit these on one trip?). Even neighborhoods not near the center have lots of restaurants, cafes, and street life. Many first time visitors (and repeat visitors, for that matter) prefer to be in arrondissements 4, 5, or 6. These are near multiple metro lines and walking distance to multiple attractions, as well as being close to the Seine - but you pay a premium for this.
Hotel Eugenie- I have stayed here, very central, very close to main RER /metro stop of St Michel,, clean , nice staff, in midst of cafes shops etc,, walk to Orsay, Notre Dame, Louvre, etc, air conditioned, mini frigde , modern bathrooms(ones with shower only are slightly bigger then full bathrooms). Decor is nothing special, sort of basic motel, but tv gets a few english channels.
It is literally 1/2 block from Seine. Room on courtyards have no view at all, but are quieter,, I had room facing street and noise wasn't bad( its a mostly pedestrian street but crowded at times) ,,double paned windows and a.c kept it pretty calm in room.
Thank you so much for these suggestions. I'll check them out today.
I just got reservations for a triple at the Hotel Dieu B & B in the hospital on the 6th floor B wing for next April. Price was 156 euro. Check tripadvisor, very good reviews and directly across from the
Notre Dame Cathedral. Have a Great Trip!
We just came back and had a lovely stay at Hotel Turenne le Marais. Great air conditioning, which we needed at least one of the days while there. One factor for us was that they had a triple room (not advertised but when we called, they said they had a room they could put a cot in, for our three teenage sons.
