Reaching CDG Airport by train - where to stay the night before?

After a week in France, our flight home departs from CDG Airport on 9 September at 11:00 a.m.

My husband and I are spending our last few days in the Loire Valley. Unfortunately, there are no trains from Tours to CDG that would get us to the airport by 9:00 a.m. (in time to check in for our 11 a.m. flight), so we may need to spend our last night (8 September) elsewhere.

The hotels at CDG are rather expensive, and I've not had much luck trying to book a room thus far at a decent hotel in our budget. Can you recommend other cities or towns south of CDG where we could spend our last night AND that would have a direct train to the airport? (We have a rail pass, but will not have a car.)

Or perhaps there's another option that I've not considered? Maybe a way to go from Tours to CDG, but via Paris, on the morning of 9 September?

Any suggestions welcomed!

Kim,
There is no need to stay near the airport. The RER rail line will get you to CDG from the heart of the city in 30 or 40 minutes and the trains run about every 15 or 20 minutes. You should have no problem finding a hotel in your price range near one of the stations. But, after our experience last March, I would recommend that you get to the airport three hours before your flight. The security-clearance lines were the longest and most disorganized I have ever witnessed, except for the previous time we flew out of CDG. We barely made our flight even though we were there more than two hours early.

Have you tried the Ibis Hotels at CDG? It might be within your budget and they often have special offers.

You could consider bidding for a hotel near CDG on priceline. ("Name your own price" option). When I just need a hotel near the airport, I often use priceline. I haven't done this at CDG, but have at other airports. For most of the major cities, you can specify the airport area. Check the website biddingfortravel.com for tips on bidding.

I agree with Roy. If you're flying home, be at CDG three hours before your flight's scheduled departure time.

The Accor chain has hotels near CDG in all price ranges. The cheapest is the Hotel F1 Roissy Aéroport CDG PN 2. Bathrooms are down the hall. The next is the Etap Hotel Roissy CDG Paris Nord 2. Bathrooms are ensuite. The next is the Hotel Ibis Charles de Gaulle Paris Nord 2. Bathrooms are ensuite. These three hotels are located next to each other and they provide free shuttle bus service to the airport.

The Ibis hotel described by Rosalyn on your duplicate thread is the Hotel Ibis Charles de Gaulle Aéroport/Terminal. It is located next to Terminal 3 and close by a stop for the free CDGVAL driverless shuttle train that runs 24/7 and connects all the terminals.

You can take a direct TGV from St-Pierre-des-Corps to CDG, leaving at 19:17 and arriving at 21:12. Or leave at 21:22 and arrive at 23:06.

We stayed at the Ibis at CDG about 3 weeks ago. Booked first night for 69Euro on their web site. It is a 10 minute walk to the tram, which will then get you to any terminal. Secnd night is another story all together for another post.

Ibis does NOT have AC. In the summer, this is a cosideration. Also, they had a special on and could buy breakfast -7E- cheaper at the desk than by booking it early online. Breakfast was good and filling with decent chocices and all the coffee, hot chocolate you want. Free refills are unusual in Europe, and this was a nice touch.

Be careful, there are four Ibis's in the area. The other one's are a long way from the airport. You want the Ibis that is here: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/htid=44820

I didn't realize that this thread had posted twice. Not sure how that happenened, but my apologies for that.

Thank you all for your helpful and detailed replies. Wish I had realized this thread appeared two times, as I booked my hotel before I saw this second thread.

I'm sure I would have found a better deal through one of your recommended links, but by the time I learned of the double post, I had already paid for a reservation. I ended up booking the Novotel Convention and Wellness Roissy CDG. Found an Internet special that included free breakfast and paid 101 euros, so that fit our budget.

I am a huge Priceline "name your own price" fan and use that option whenever possible. Unfortunately, I couldn't manage to score a hotel this time. More's the pity!

Thank you again--very kind of you to take the time to post a reply.

John....I'm not sure what you mean when you say the other Ibis' are "a long way from the airport." The Ibis Paris Nord 2 is the only other Ibis hotel actually on CDG property, and is a 10-15 minute free shuttle ride from the RER 1 station, with easy access from there to T1 and 3, and the CDGVal to T2. The Paris Nord 2 Ibis can usually be had for a substantial savings over the one near T3 and the RER 1 station, so a short shuttle ride may be worth the savings. A third, Hotel Ibis Roissy Charles de Gaulle, is actually in the town of Roissy en France, and is quite close to the terminals by paid shuttle....about 15 minutes from T2.
