We are planning to travel by rail from Madrid-Seville-Granada and are wondering if we should book our train tickets from the US before we go. I'm wondering how far out they book and how far ahead to book so that we don't encounter sell-outs or other problems with our somewhat tight schedule. Any suggestions? Joe and Kathy
Three years ago we spent 8 weeks in Spain and used trains exclusively ( a few bus trips WERE sprinkled in, so not EXCLUSIVELY). We bought all our tix at stations or from travel agencies in Spain and never experienced any problems. Booking in the US is almost always much more expensive and usually unnecessary. If you feel that the trains you wish to take will likely be sold out bcuz of some special circumstance, we say go to it and buy here
There's a fast train each hour between Madrid and Sevilla (2 per hour during morning and afternoon rush hours) so getting tickets should not be a problem....go to the train station upon your arrival in Madrid to book it....65 Euro pp. There are also some slower trains at 56 euro, with the run taking about 3:20 as opposed to 2:45. From Sevilla to Granada, take the bus...large, comfortable coaches on modern highways that cost about 18 Euro pp. The run takes about 15 minutes longer than the train, but you'll save a couple of Euro, and the schedules are more frequent.
Hi,
I just finished buying tickets for all my Spain
train travel over the RENFE website: http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html
It's very easy to use and you can use credit cards.
As Norm suggested, I am taking the bus from Seville to
Granada. For that, use this site:
http://www.movelia.es/
Again, you can buy your ticket and pay with a CC.
Good luck!
