We were trying to find a way to get to Bastogne via Frankfurt by rail and have not been able to find any tickets and/or rail stations that go to Bastogne. Does anyone have any tips? If not we are most probably going to rent a car.

Bastogne doesn't have rail access. By public transit, you will probably have to go through Brussels, take a train to Libramont, and from there, catch a bus to Bastogne.

You can find routing and schedules on the German Rail website. It does show the last part, from Libramont, about 40 min to Bastogne, by bus (it also gives the bus number). It looks like about the fastest routes go though Luxembourg.
