rail pass in Switzerland

What is the best rail pass for 5 days in Switzerland in September in the Interlachen and Bernese Oberland area?

Swiss rail has a 4-day pass that covers trains, buses, and ferries. Should be more than adequate to get around the region. I based out of Lauterbrunnen. Just took a different train everyday. Real easy

We used the half fare card for a week in the Berner Oberland and a week in the Luzern area. I added up costs of the various passes and decided on the half fare card. You might want to spend time calculating where you will be going and factor in the cost of the pass before making up your mind.
I felt like we came out slightly ahead with the half fare card and we used the rail and gondolas every day.

We too purchased and used the half-fare card. It's especially valuable if you intend to travel up to the top of the Jungfrau and/or the Schilthorn. No Swiss pass or card will cover you 100% to those two mountain tops. The best Swiss pass or card will get you to Wengen or Murren at no cost but from there, it covers you at 50% fare which is the same as the half-fare card. As others have said, make a list of where you are going. The Swiss train website (www.rail.ch) will show you the fares. You can easily determine which Swiss pass or card is less expensive.

I agree with Kathryn...for me the best choice has been the half price rail card that you buy in the train stations. Works on trains, lake boats and some of the private rail lines. It is good for a month. Cost this year may be 116 franc, if I remember a previous post about it. But compare it to the pass and the point to point sales for the best cost comparison.

I agree get the half card if you go up any expensive mountains like the Jungfrau or Pilatus. It comes with the first and last day free (not including those mountains of course). or just get a flexi pass for 3-4 days in a month. If you do short hops under 30$ inbetween. But sounds like the Half Swiss Pass is best for - I just used it in August myself!
