rail in germany

The more I read in planning my Aug trip, the more it seems that using region train travel (ie, Bayern ticket) is more advantageous where possible because it also provides other transport in that region. thoughts???

Each German state has a form of the Bayern-ticket (Länder ticket), read here. I prefer to limit my travel and exploit a relatively small area, so Länder tickets work well. In particular, in Bavaria, the Bayern-Ticket also includes travel on most bus lines. With the Bayern-Ticket you have complete flexibility; you can purchase it for the same price right up to the time of travel.

We have used Länder Tickets extensively the last few years as they are such a bargain for trains and other local transportation. There are a few occasions when a more local ticket is even a better bargain. One example: a couple can travel one-way or round-trip between Nürnberg and Rothenburg on a Tages-Ticket Plus for about 17 euros. Regards, Gary
