My husband has fond memories of good food in Paris ham and cheese sandwiches from Boulangerie Julien. I want to keep him well-fed and happy while we are there on our upcoming trip. Do you have any suggestions for good sandwich places in Paris, or ones we should avoid?
Your husband and I would get along well. I too am quite a ham and cheese sandwich fan. The French do ham spectacularly.
The only place I would tell you to avoid buying a ham and cheese sandwich would be a place that overcharges for one. Good food can be found in places you might not think-one of the best meals I had in Paris was salmon lasagna in a little cafe next to Gare St. Lazare. Most neighborhood cafes and boulangeries know how to make a good sandwich (try a croque madame-my favorite!).
Why not make the both of you happy? Go to Galleries Layfayette, after shopping, choose which food court area you would like. They vary from the ritzy deli to a self serve area, ask for a map of the shopping center. I generally look for a young female, ages 20 to 30, they claim to not speak English well, but they do better then they think, they will help you; this works well when you get lost as well.
