Questions about rail passes

We are going to be spending two weeks in Spain next May and will be purchasing the Spain pass before we go. Will we also need boarding passes for the trips we'll be taking? Or do we just show up at the train station and will be able to get on any train? I would imagine they would need to know how many travellers will be on a particular route but I'm just not sure how that works when you have a rail pass.

thanks for any advice!

thanks Steve! I'm gonna guess that the longer routes, say Granada to Madrid for example, will require reservations. I'd hate to have to stand all the way on that route :)

appreciate it greatly!

Toby,

You don't have to guess which trains require reservations. The German rail site, www.bahn.de, has timetables for most of Europe. Enter Granada as your departure point and Madrid as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points, if any. If a leg requires a reservation, it will be clearly indicated.

From your comments it sounds like you haven't read the railpasses section on this site. Click on the tab at the top of the page you're reading now and you'll find many pages of detailed information.

Thanks Tim, I will check out that website!

I've skimmed the rail pass section of this site but perhaps I need to read it fully.

Thanks for the tips!
