question on Switzerland

I am in the process of planning my travel to Switzerland and have already put previous posts.
1)I was just curious...we are going to be going to Jungfrau and Schilthorn. Do we still need to go to Mt. Pilatus or can this be skipped?
2) Initially I was considering taking the Gloden Pass router from Interlaken to Geneva, but due to time constrains I am now thinking of taking its from Interlaken to Montreux. Is this a good idea? Is there any to do in Zweisimmen or Montreux or just the roudn trip ride is enough?

Hi Simran,
Instead of Mt. Pilatus, I would take a short cruise on Lake Lucerne:- Lucerne to the village of Vitznau. The fare is inexpensive, the ships are unique, beautiful and stop at other delightful places on the lake. If you have a Eurail Pass the fare for lake steamers is included. In Vitznau, at their steamer terminal, take the cog rail to the top of Rigi mountain [vitznau-Rigi Bahn], weather permitting. Just enjoy the cruise if the mountain is clouded. You may obtain ship tickets, if required, at the steamer terminal across the street from the Lucerne train station. Keep in mind, the steamers are part of the local transportation system between villages and places on the lake -- not just a tourist thing.
Montreux is nice. Tour groups stop there for their customers' shopping convenience. The tour manager gets a 15% cut for nearly everything the group purchases. You can find the same goods in Geneva and Lucerne & same commission arrangement if you are part of a tour.

No, you do not need to do Pilatus if you are already doing Jungfrau and Schilthorn. Hopefully when you these mountain trips you will actually be spending the night in one of the mountain villages...Muerren, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Grindelwald. Some people stay in Interlaken and think they will be in the mountains...not true. Interlaken sits at the base of these mountains and is an excellent transportation hub for the train network.

We took the GoldenPass from Interlaken to Montreux, and it was an enjoyable experience. In Montreux the promenade by the lake is beautiful especially with the mountains in the background. A big tourist site in Montreux is Castle Chillion - a must see.

The ride is nice enough one way, but round tripping it just for the sake of the ride? It will cost you 9hrs. I would say pick a destination and get yourself there instead of being married to the Golden Pass run. Or, take the "Pass" one way and a different route on the way back. Maybe head to Bern or another destination that will fit into a loop.
I did not pause in Montreux or Zweisimmen, so I can't comment on them. I did do the Jungfrau; an exhilarating experience. Make sure you take the hike to the mountain hut, it was the icing (pun) on the cake for me.

I loved Montreaux and wished we could have spent more time there. A cruise on the lake from Montreaux to Lausanne is wonderful. Montreaux is more expensive than some other places but it is so charming! Enjoy!
