Question about sightseeing in Provence with rental car

We have two full days to sightsee in Provence with a rental car and are planning to pick the car up at the Nimes train station (day 1), go to Pont Du Gard, stop in Orange and catch the theatre, then we would like to continue to some wineries and enjoy the villages and sights along the way to the luberon via Mount Ventoux.(day 2) and head to Rousillon, St. Remy, etc.

I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on places to stay so that first thing in the morning of day 2, we can take the Mount Ventoux drive to start in the luberon? I have been over and over the Rick Steve's book and there are so many great sounding places. We can't stop at them all, and are just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on their personal faves. for either area. thanks.

You do know there are no shows at the theater in Orange?

Two of my favorite towns/villages are Uzes and Lourmarin. I have stayed several times at La Cordiere in Lourmarin. Uzes is fairly close to Pont du Gard. If you can hit St Remy on market day, that is a fun stop.

Doug- yes, I know about the theatre. I have a great interest as I am in the Theatre field. That would be a surprise, I imagine, for someone expecting to see a Broadway review in full swing or something! ha ha.

Everyone- Which should we leave more driving time for? The Cotes de Rhone area or the Luberon area? Any more suggestions.

Susan and Doug- thanks for your input so far.

I would hit the Gigondas loop around the Dentelles. Stop in at the wine syndicate shop in Gigondas, where you can sample literally hundreds of wines though they won't make recommendations. It's a real crap shoot, but a fun crap shoot.

Fontaine de Vaucluse is also a nice change from the usual tourist stuff.

Actually, I believe there are sometimes live performances at the Roman Theater in Orange.

Fontaine de Vaucluse is stunning, and also the Resistance Museum there is well worth a visit. But it also has its share of "the usual tourist stuff," such as a torture museum, etc.
