I am leading a group of college students to Amsterdam in May. I have a reservation at the Hotel Aalders and was interested if anyone has stayed there and how they liked it. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. This is not a commercial tour, but a (non-profit) university one.

Vondelpark Hostel wasn't bad. It was relatively clean and quiet. It worked pretty well for us with our three children, except that it's in Amsterdam.
The hostel is supposed to be non-smoking and drug-free but wasn't completely as you had to walk through a cloud of cigarette and other smoke to get into the building. It's next to Vondelpark which is supposed to be a nice park but was also full of drug use.
If my university students were visiting Amsterdam, I'd probably stop paying for college. Outside of drugs and prostitution, it has little to offer.
