Question about honeymoon itinerary to france and italy

Hello fellow travelers,

My husband and I have decided to take our two week honeymoon in Europe! woo hoo! We have only been to Europe once before 10 years ago (Scotland, England, and Amsterdam), so we feel still very new to European traveling.

We have an itinerary we are working on, but want to know if there are some windows to add a stop in, or should we can some additions?

Basically, the plan is as follows:

We will arrive in Nice, France and catch the train to Cinque Terre and stay there for 3 nights, then take the hour? long train ride back to Savona, jump on a 5 day cruise stopping in Naples(pompeii!!!!), Malta, Corfu Greece, Dubrovnik Croatia, then ending in Venice where we will spend two full days (1 night), then catch the train to some hill town????, then continue onto Arles, where we will stay 3 nights, hitting the Saturday market, then train back to Nice and fly out.

Now, as cruises are nice and relaxing, we are nervous about the five days in europe on a cruise, but wonder if this will break up some of the busy traveling, etc. I wanted to see at least one castle, but wonder if that is possible. Also, it is hard to see pompeii so quickly and be swept back away on cruise itinerary. We really wanted to take the train from Venice to provence via the alps scenery, but this seems not possible.

I know this is a bunch of info. Thanks to anyone who might be able to provide some insight.

We are more country than city people, and I am involved in theatre if that might a location plus.

Thanks for the link. I will definitely check it out. I love researching, so this will be of some great help!

Alas, thus the inexperience: We have already bought our flight tickets. We were so nervous about price fluctuation and tried researching about best times to buy, and talked to friends who had traveled to Europe about their flight experiences. Now, I wish we would have locked in our itinerary and waited to buy for a bit, but I guess this will be a learning experience. Any more thoughts, Ken?
And do you love Oregon? We are planning to move to Portland hopefully this summer!

Hello Nikki. You said you will do a two week honeymoon. During that time you will travel to and in Europe, and return to the U.S.A. Two weeks is 14 days. Reading your travel plan, I see a total of a minimum of 20 days. Will you be away from the U.S.A. a total of 14 days ?

Nikki,
I have travelled quite a bit over the past 15 years, most of it in Europe. My most wonderful times is when I have been able to spend at least 5-7 nights in one place....otherwise all becomes a blur.
I lived in Nice and the best thing about Nice is that small wonderful towns are quite close by, via bus. La Turbie, Antibes, Monaco...to name 3 favorites. also, their Marche is MUCH better than in Arles. Arles is a wonderful town, but extra days in Venice I think would be a better time.
Venice, well....it IS the most wonderful...but to get the feel of it at least 5-7 nights is required. My advice is that everyone must see 3 places before they die, Venice, Paris & Cusco. But this is personal and everyone else will have three other places.
So! When in Nice, bus it to La Turbie, next day to Monaco. Then Train to Paris...a week there....then
a fast train to Venice....that's it! You will have more time to see and feel places and less time on a train travelling, checking into and out of hotels, dragging baggage from hotel to train, lugging them upstairs and downstairs, checkfing yet again into another hotel, unpacking....you get the picture. You don't get baggage help in France and Italy, you are basically on your own.
Hope I convinced you to slow down and have a very wonderful Honeymoon!
