Quebec Canada question

I know this isn't europe/France but I thought you guys might know. I'm planning a trip to Quebec City Canada at the end of the month. Anyone know any quaint,Rick Steve's style hotels? Eating places, ect? This will be my first time to Canada.

Maybe you could take this question to the Canada forums at the Frommer and Fodor websites.

Cathy, Tripadvisor.com is also a great resource. You can select rankings for hotels or B&Bs.

cathy,

You might also try the "Canada" Forum on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree message board. There's usually a fairly active bunch there, so I'm sure they would have a few suggestions.

What type of accommodations and price range are you considering? You might have a look at Hotel Champlain Vieux on TripAdvisor.

Be sure to practise your French, and use the "polite words" when possible (please, thankyou, etc.).

This is a bit early, but welcome to Canada!!!

Cathy, we stayed at "Au Petit Hotel" in June - nothing fancy, but clean, with a bargain breakfast and a great location. Has parking for cars, too. Try to have a meal at "Aux Anciennes Canadiennes" if you can. If you have a car and the time, we enjoyed spending a day on the Isle d'Orleans. Shoot me an e-mail if you want - we were there for four days and had a great time.

I've been to Quebec City at least five times either with middle school student groups or with my husband. IMO, the Chateau Frontenac is THE hotel to stay in - it's historic, inside the walled part of the city and central to all the sites in Old Quebec. It's not inexpensive but well worth visiting - take a behind-the-scenes tour, very interesting and it is given in English.

There are many excellent restaurants in both the Upper Town and Lower Town - Aux Anciennes Canadiens in the upper town is one of the oldest and is very good. There is also a Creperie just down the street from Chateau Frontenac that serves delicious crepes.

Almost everyone in the tourist areas can speak English, but just as in France, do use the polite French words of "S'il vous plait, Merci, Bonjour, Bonsoir (good evening) and Au revoir."

Welcome to Canada! Be sure to have some maple syrup (sirop d'erable) and try some Caribou (a red wine and brandy concoction only available in Quebec - usually served for the Winter Carnival in February and may be available at the SAQ).

Thanks for the help. I'm only going to be there for 2 nights but have lots of things planned. Everyone has recommended the same restaurant! I'm excited about trying the caribu!
