Public transportation from Madrid to Grenada

Can you please advise us about the best way to get from Madrid to Grenada by either bus or train? We're going on Thursday, April 5, 2012. Thank you, Edmond Green

I don't know about the bus, but the trains in Spain are convenient, modern, and very comfortable. From Madrid to Granada there are two direct trains a day, departing at 9:05 am and 17:05 in the afternoon. The journey takes 4.5 hours, so the early one is preferable. Since there are only these two trains each day, it is best to buy tickets in advance on the website www.renfe.com. If you buy 2 months in advance (February 5 for April 5 travel) you should be able to get the discounted Web fare of 27,60 euros, which is a bargain. If you are on a website where you have to type in the destination, make sure you spell it correctly--Granada not Grenada.

Bus if you need it - http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa Note - the bus station in Granada is not central and will require one or two bus journeys or a taxi depending where you stay. The train station is central and you could be on top of your accommodation or a bus or taxi away.

Hmmm... "The best way." Is the best way the most comfortable way? If so, the train is the way to go. As mentioned above, unless you get a discounted fare in advance (28 Euros), it'll be the most expensive way. Train takes 4.5 hours. (these tickets aren't yet listed on the Renfe.es website. You'll have to wait as they only have the train prices listed online to the end of March. The bus takes either 4.5 or 5.0 hours and can cost anywhere from 17 Euros to 35 Euros. I've done this route by both train and bus and they're both good. But, again, the train is much more comfortable as you can move around. If your schedule can manage it, take one of the 2 trains in the day. Otherwise, take any of the, what, 10 trains making this route. Good luck! Saludos, MadridMan - AND BarcelonaMan - @ you-know-where!
