Provence wine tours/tastings

I've been thinking about booking one of the RS recommended wine tours in the Cotes du Rhone area of Provence. Are these worth it? I love learning about wine and I want to see a lot of the area but won't have a car and will be using public transportation.

When I saw the hill towns of Italy, they each had really cheap local wine tastings. Do the Provence towns offer anything like this? If so I could probably just do it on my own. Can you bike between these towns?

Also, my travel partner isn't really into wine. Is there anything else in the area that he could do during the day? We will both be going to Pont du Gard another day. We are staying at Hotel Regence May 17-20. Thanks for any suggestions!

Definitely worth it. We booked (if memory recalls) Wine Safari with Mike that was listed in the RS book. Picked us up at our hotel in Avignon. Took us to the Chateneuf de Pape wineries. Learned a lot. Had great wine. Felt like we got out into the country for a day. We did it with a pre-arranged group, so it wasn't crazy expensive. Less than 100E per person. If your partner is not a wine person, I think it is still okay. You get some history, fresh air, out and about in the country, visiting smaller towns. That's a tough call - but if your partner is up for it - I was a good day even without the wine....but the wine helps too!
