Provence vs. French Riviera w/Toddler

We have a travel dilemma: In order to minimize travel transitions with our toddler (1-year-old); would you spend 5 days in Arles/Provence environs or in Villefranche/Nice environs? From Arles or Villefranche, our next destination is Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera. A drive from Arles to Santa Margherita is 5-6 hours I believe. After the Italian Riviera we're off to Lucca/Tuscany for a week. Given our itinerary, what would you suggest: Provence or French Riviera? Thank you in advance!

What time of year and what do you want to do? Honestly, at that age, just maintaining a regular schedule is the most important. Your toddler isn't going to care that much where he/she is unless he/she really likes to swim, or play in the sand at the beach. And since happy parents make for happy children, I'd suggest doing what you want to do. We toted our oldest all over when she was that age and she happily went along with whatever we chose.

villefranche/nice is better. you can use public transportation and they're not crowded, plus it's shorter distance to italy.

Since we are going to be in and around Nice very soon and this fall, please take your toddler to Arles/Provence....
