Provence or French Alps

A lovely day! I have 3 days to kick around during an upcoming trip, and I wonder, should I head to Provence (Oragne, Avignon, Pont du Gard) or do I head for the French Alps (Annecy, Chamonix)? I will have a car, the trip will be in the middle of October. I'll spending some time in Burgundy and the Cote du Rhone before my 3 days, and then I'll be heading through Baden-Baden and Luxembourg on my way to Brussels. Oh, you experience travelers, what say you?

The southern parts of the Alps extend into Provence in the east, towards Nice. Although that would be a bit of a detour if you're going from the Rhone Valley to the low countries.
