HELP!!! going to Paris and then to Provence for 3 days late November, and have tried most of Rick's suggestions for hotels. Many are closed during this time.We would like to stay centrally located, so I am trying Arles, St. remy (so far pickings are slim), also trying Les Baux, and Fontevielle. Tarascon will be next attempt. We don't want to stay in Avignon, we will have a car, and it may be too crazy there. Any other ideas???
Just returned from Provence (there the week of October 7-12)...did not have any problem finding a place to stay. In Arles stayed at a Rick recommendation...the one without the bath...but was just fine for a budget traveler. One block from the arena, and about 4 blocks from the church. If you plan to stay there take a postcard from your hometown.
thanks for your help fellow ricksters!!!
A great stay in Provence is in Lourmarin (pop 1000), in the eastern half, and recognized as on of the "cute" villages of France (obviously not the travel savy correct term). Try La Cordiere, very reasonable, quaint, and Francoise is kind and helpful. She has 3 rooms, and they are very reasonable. We ordered a soft-cover book online from Bob & Sue Winn, Americans, called Provence Byways ($20). They use to own an apartment in Lourmarin and wrote a number of driving itineraries which originate from Lourmarin. They were each unique, and places you would never find in a guide book. Francoise will also help you with day trips to St Remy, Pont du Gard etc. I intend to re-do this trip again in early June, and will refer to the above mentioned book again with new guests.
