My wife and I are spending four nights in Provence in mid-June. After taking the TGV down to Avignon, we are spending two nights in Vaison la Romaine. We want to drive over Mt. Ventoux then into the Luberon region where we will spend our third night. Where should we stay that night? A smaller town in the Luberon? Which one? Should we take the train from Avignon to Nice or just drive to Nice? (We are flying out of Nice). We would like to stay in a place that is representative of the Luberon experince but that also accomodates our transportation needs for the next day. Any thoughts?
Hi Tom.
1. Where to stay: My boyfriend and I went last May to Provence & stayed @ Chambres Sous l'Olivier near Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The B&B is in a very central location in the Luberon & it's great. Julien the owner makes DELICIOUS meals. I recommend eating @ the B&B. When we were there we were the only Americans and we got to know the other guests from Italy, France, Netherlands, etc. Great experience.

Alternatively, staying in Rousillon, the teeny tiny ochre-red town would be fun too. It's much smaller than Isle.
- Getting to Nice: I would drive from Provence to Nice. The drive is pretty and if you have time you can swing through Le Grand Canyon du Verdon which is between the two locations.
Bon Voyage!
Isle sur la Sorgue is lovely.
