Provence

What city or location would be the best "home base" to stay while doing day trips into surrounding areas of Provence on a 5 night stay(4 days to sight see) visit?

The best home base to recommend depends on you helping us out by being more specific about what towns/sights you're most interested in focusing on. Please get back to us and we'll be able to give you more useful answers.

We plan to visit Avignon, Arles,St Remy, Roussillon, Les Baux and any other towns we have time for. We are looking at Arles and St Remy so far as good spots to stay since they are small and seem they would be nice to relax in after driving and sight seeing all day. We have also considered staying in a B&B outside of one of these towns.

"We are looking at Arles and St Remy so far as good spots to stay since they are small."

Actually, Arles is not small, population more than 50,000. Small would be St Remy (pop. ~10,000 but parts of it seem smaller), Les Baux (pop. ~500), or Roussillon (~1000).

"We have also considered staying in a B&B outside of one of these towns." There is not much of anything outside of Les Baux.

We really liked to base ourselves in Isle-sur la- Sorgue. It is close to all the villages of the Luberon and the Cotes du Rhone. It is easy to get in and out of and has a wonderful Sunday market, with brocante and antiques as well as food, scarves etc.

Thank you. That is very helpful. Any recommendations for the best place to stay? Hotel, B&B, etc in the St Remy area. Thanks.

Le Mas des Carassins, ~15 min walk from center of St Remy; check on tripadvisor.com for reviews to make sure it's still as good as it was in 2007.
