We have changed our itinerary based on comments from folks on this site; thanks for the info! We are no pinning a 10 day trip to Provence, flying into Marseille. My testis are: 1. Has anyone stayed in Provence and taken a trip to Barcelona (for 2 days)? I believe it is about 4.5 hour drive from Marseille.
2. What is a good base town to stay in that is on the Mediterranean? We looked into Cassis, but some folks say it is better to stay near Le Lavandou, better beaches. I think I want to go to Arles, Avignon, Nimes and and Aix. It seems that it may be better to find a house near Sete if we plan on going to Spain. Thoughts?
We stayed along the beach in Perpignan. I think any of those towns, Montpelier or Narbonne could be a good base for you. There are little beach towns just along the sea for each of these larger towns. You could also stay in the Camargue area. It would be quite a distance to Aix but close to the other three. I love the Camargue because it is so different.
Bev, Tell me about accommodations near Perpignan.if we want to go to Arels, Aix and Nimes, maybe we are better off closer to Sete or Montpellier? I prefer a small beach town that is not stuffed with tourists.
Did you go to Barcelona on your trip(s) to Provence? If so, tell me abut the drive, accomodations, etc.r Thanks!
