I will be staying in a villa in Hyeres in October as part of a home exchange, so that will be our base for two weeks. My question is: Can we make day trips to the Cotes du Rhone wine villages and Monaco or would you recommend stay overnight in those areas rather than driving back to Hyeres?

Monaco is only about an hour and a half away and I've never been thrilled with it.....that'd make it a day trip for me. Depending on how deep you go into the Rhone wine regions, you might even want to spend a couple of nights. The center is probably a bit over two hours from Hyeres, further up the Rhone is well....further. I could spend a couple of nights in Orange just poking around the area for the Roman stuff.... and I'm not one bit of a wine fan.
