Protest locations in France

Can anyone tell me specifically where the protests are taking place in Paris? We're trying to choose a hotel location and would prefer it not be in the midst of the drama! Thanks for your time.

Traditionally the protests take place on the east side between Bastille, Republique, and Nation. However, last week it was on the west side at the Invalides. You'll probably be out of it if you are in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, near the Opera or the Champs Elysee.

Thanks Bets. Out of those do you have a preference of where to stay? Or better yet, a hotel you would recommend? We'll be in Paris for two nights.

I arrived in Paris on the day of a big strike/ demonstration. A parade went down Mountparnasse that lasted for hours. Our hotel (Les Academies des Artes) was a 1/2 block from the demonstration. It was not a problem. I had to take the Metro after the Air France bus because the taxi could not reach the hotel. I rolled my suitcase right next to the parade. That evening we crossed through the parade to go to dinner. Most of my companions were "Republican businessman types." This still was not a problem. I wouldn't worry. Stay where you like.
