Proper Attire for Monte Carlo casino/Best way to get there

We will be staying in a timeshare in Mougin the second week in April. We are there with another couple and have talked about renting a car, but will most likely start out trying to tour the Riviera by train (depends on the ease of getting a bus from the timeshare to the nearest train station; still researching those details). I'm guessing we would make our way to Monaco as a day trip, most likely returning to Mougin early evening. We'd like to be able to see the inside of the casino but my husband is remembering being there 40 years ago and there being a dress code requiring jackets and ties for men. I'm wondering what the rules are today and if there might be a daytime code that is somewhat more lax than evening. We are in our 50s-60s-70s and won't be in jeans and ballcaps (at least not that day!), but do want to plan to be dressed nicely enough to get into the casino but comfortably enough for a day of train riding and walking tours. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We spent two nights in Monte Carlo in early October last year, just downhill from the Casino. We went to the casino in the late afternoon, paid the entry fee, had the obligatory martini, played the slots briefly, wandered about, then left. We had on black jeans for me and a nice shirt, dark slacks and a nice top for my wife. They denied entry to some drifters with backpacks and others dressed sloppily. You won't have any trouble getting in before 6PM but a coat and tie is still required for the evening I think.

you must dress up to get into the real game rooms. jeans and shirts can get you in the slot and things, but you'll be underwhelmed if you have been to vegas. in that case, it's not that exciting.

Since you've got the Dress Code part of your question answered, I'll take a stab at the Best way to get there part - by train. While you can drive, Monaco is packed pretty tightly and I wouldn't want to drive it. We had a car in the Riviera last summer and found that traffic was so bad it was much faster to take the train whenever possible. If you're not there in the summer, it might be a little different.

Sounds like the "Feeling Lucky" shirt is out, as is the hat with the dangling fuzzy dice. Also, do not believe your husband if he claims he needs a sweet young thing on his arm as an accessory.

There's been another thread recently about doing wacky things in Europe. How about this-hit the thrift shops before your trip. I'm thinking polyester leisure suits (powder blue!) from the 70's for the men, and prom or bridesmaid dresses for the ladies. Go to the casino all gussied up. Men should slick back their hair with Brillcream, and ladies should go with really big hair. Vague Eastern European accents. I dare you.

Fake eastern European accents. I guess you are unaware of who is buying big properties on the Riviera these days and how they earned their money. Bad idea to mess with them. When you want to be looney, be sure you know the culture.

Bets, I was thinking of the Blues Brothers scene in the restaurant. "De women, how much for de women?" But maybe you're right. Just stick with the ugly American theme. (Sorry to have highjacked this thread for my own personal casino fantasy.)
