As part of their bid for the 2016 Olympics, city designers have been planning this for quite a while now. Construction began in spring of '08. They're narrowing the channel but increasing water flow to make it navigable for recreational boating, adding miles of hike/bike lanes, water-side parks with underground parking will dot the course of the once-maligned Manzanares. I read that around 23,000 new trees will be planted! Has anyone yet noticed some enticing, new places to wander? Or is it still just cranes and bulldozers? Thanks for any insight.
