Problem with Bed and Breakfast Amsterdam

Hello! I made a reservation for five nights in June at Bed and Breakfast Amsterdam (also called Tulips Bed and Breakfast, I think) which was mentioned in the R.S. book. The owners wrote back after I made the reservation and said that we would not be staying at the advertised location, but at the Zeilstraat 22 location, which is run by the owners' housekeepers.

Is this some kind of bait and switch thing? It seems a little shady to me.

I have looked into the Amedeus Hotel in Haarlem in case I want to cancel the bed and breakfast reservation, but several reviews said that it was dirty and moldy. I'm not sure what to do, as we're on a budget and Amsterdam lodging is so expensive. (Also, everywhere is getting booked up.) All I really care about is having a clean place to sleep at night.

Has anyone stayed at the Zeilstraat location? If so, what was it like?

Thanks in advance!

Hi ! I'm going to Amsterdam next month and I just booked the same reservation as you in B& B Amsterdam. I booked a 5 day reservation and the owner wrote me back it would be in zeilstraat 22 instead of sloterkate (the ad location). I don't know if you had some answers and if you finally stayed in this hotel. Would you be kind to tell me if the place was ok or not or if someone told you not to go there !! thanks a lot.

It is not really bait and switch. Sometimes the B&B will own or use two or three different building generally in the same area. If it is in a completely different location, may be a mile or two away, I might reconsider. This happened to us once in Seville and once in Rome. Both times the other building was two or three doors away. The only inconvenience was having to walking outside for breakfast....... Where did you read that Amedeus was dirty and moldy??? We were there last September and it was excellent. We thought it was a terrific place to stay away from the hassle of Amsterdam.

We stayed at Tulips B&B in June and found the owners very kind and the place very pleasant and clean. If they have another location, I would trust that it was similar.

This was my situation when was in Amsterdam in July. I stayed at Frederic Rent-A-Bike (also recommended by RS), which has a number of buildings in addition to the main office. I filled out the online form for a double room at one location, and a couple days later was told that the room wasn't available but they could offer me another double in a different building (run by Frederic's parents, apparently). Everything worked out fine and our new room was only a five-minute walk from the office. I wouldn't necessarily worry about this, but if it will make you feel better to switch hotels then you should do that.
