My elderly parents and I will be traveling in Austria (5 days in Tirol region) and Switzerland (5 days in Berner Oberland) in the end of June. This time we will be taking two cell-phones (unlocked quad band) hoping for smooth communication between my parents and myself during the trip. Now, here is the question. I know I can buy prepaid SIM cards in Switzerland, but can anyone tell me what options I have? Companies? Price? I am planning to buy two SIM cards at Zurich airport. Thank you for your help!
You can see a chart of Swiss prepaid SIM companies and their costs at: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/switzerland.html
Another option is the National Geographic SIM. This way you can have the phone numbers in advance and store them in your phones. And they have credit card top-up option so there's no need to purchase and enter top up vouchers during the trip. Rates are about a $1 a minute outgoing, $0.25 incoming. Just a thought, http://www.cellularabroad.com/cellAbroadSIMcard.php?bid=46&aid=CD661&opt=
pete Oh, and the National Geographic SIM has a US phone number so people in the states can reach you (and a UK phone number for free incoming mobile to mobile calls).
Pete, Thanks for the link. The National Geographic SIM totally got my attention. Then I happened to come across some reviews on Amazon... I think I am leaning toward just buying local prepaid SIMs in Switzerland. Nonetheless, I appreciate you taking time to post!
