Hello- I just purchased train tickets from Prague to Berlin on bahn.de. However, I noticed that although I selected Praha hl.n., the selected ticket pops up as Praha-Holesovice. I tried different departure times and they all did that, so it was not just a user error. Does anyone know the deal with that? Praha-Holesovice is not too far it seems, so I could get there, but before booking I was under the impression that the train started in Praha Hl.n. and then went to Praha-Holesovice. Does anyone know if that is a misunderstanding? Can I get on the train at Praha Hl.n.? Thanks in advance for any help.
Don't know what the deal is with it, but I can say from plenty of experience Holesovice is a better station. That's the one I always use for my Berlin/Prague excursions. It does not have all the construction, panhandling, and other unsavory folks there. You can take the Red (C) Metro line to it. There's a small elevator you can take topside that lets you out inside the station.
Here's the Prague public transportation website which even has a route planner.
http://www.dpp.cz/en/ .
Holesovice is hl.n. We travel in and out of the hl.n from and to Munich. It is the main train station in Prague.
Here is the link for IDOS the Czech Rail/Bus time tables:
http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/
Just enter the date a few days from now and the time as 06:00 and click on SEARCH.
When that timetable comes up click on NEXT several times on the lower right and it will show you the trains for all day.
If you click on Connection Details it will show you the arrival and departure of each stop along the way.
As you will notice the 7+ hours trips are by bus. The 4 hour 37 min trips are by train.
Hope this helps.
Do not worry. The main train station is undergoing renovation. Also many trains that pass through Prague go through Holesovice not the main station.
