Prague - best quarter for hotels

Hi -
We are contemplating adding Prague to our Germany trip this summer. I've done a little 360 Google Earth viewing, plus read what I could in Rick's guide. Does anyone have advice on which area of the city is best for hotels/sleeping? We will not have a car, so it would need to be either in the Old Town, Jewish Quarter or perhaps the Castle area. Don't want to end up in the strip-club district :) Thanks!

kathy, I stayed in the Old Town area close to the Charles Bridge and really enjoyed that area. There were lots of restaurants and other sites within easy walking distance. I used the Green Garland Pension, and would certainly recommend it. Happy travels!

Thanks! The Green Garland is mentioned in the RS guidebook. Glad to hear another "yes'! Were you able to walk to St. Vitius Cathedral/Castle area or is it too far? Tram instead?

It's all walkable but it's a little bit uphill to the castle. The option (not necessary) is to take tram #22 and get off at Hradcany on the other side of the castle and then walk through the castle and down to the Old Town.

kathy, For the trip to the Castle, I've walked and also used the method that Ilja mentioned. While the walk to the Castle is "uphill", it's not especially steep or difficult (just takes some time). On the bright side, walking back to the hotel is "downhill". While in Prague, you might consider taking a Segway tour. They're a bit pricey, but a lot of fun. You can get information in the T.I. which is just across the Charles Bridge (on the left as I recall). Cheers!

Last year we stayed within a couple blocks walk to the Castle at the Vintage Design Hotel Sax and really enjoyed the area. It is a bit hilly, but walking off all those delicious calories was worth it. It's not far from the Charles Bridge either and close to transportation.
