I am going to be traveling to Prague and Venice over a 7/8 day time period. Leave from Paris on Friday and return the following Saturday or Sunday. How many days would you recommend allocating to each city? Is there any other cities/villages to visit close to these two as I feel we might have extra time. Thanks!
If I understand your itinerary (Paris to Prague to Venice to Paris, or the reverse, Venice before Prague), then if you're going by train or driving you'll take basically 3 of your 7 or 8 days to cover the long distances between your 3 destinations: Paris to Prague by train is at least 12 hours, station to station (not including getting to the station, getting to the hotel, etc). Prague to Venice is about 15 hours by train. And Venice to Paris is about 12 hours, again station to station time only. Here's one possible itinerary, if you're going by train:Friday Paris to Prague (or Venice)Saturday - Monday PragueTuesday Prague to VeniceWed - Fri VeniceSat Venice to Paris.Flying is an option, obviously--but in terms of the impact on your allocation of days I don't know if it changes things much if you fly--maybe you could squeeze another day out of this but that's about it, when you consider the time getting to the airport, security, waiting for the plane, etc.
Is the 7/8 day time period including or excluding your flights to/fr USA/Europe? You will lose a day traveling over to Europe from the USA. Do yourself a favor and don't be a miser about adding an extra night to your trip. If you can't, then only see two cities. It is hard to do if you have 7 full days to see all three cities without going nuts over the travel between them. I have visited both of these cities from Prague. A good plan via air travel is 3 nights in Paris, 3 nights in Prague, 2 nights Venice, & 1 last night in Paris before heading home. Go to Skyscanner in Rick's links an plug in the one way trip from Paris to Prague, Prague to Venice, and Venice to Paris. Smartwings and SkyEurope have really cheap flights to/fr Prague to these locations. I have used both airlines for these little hopper flights. Example: it is only an hour and 10 min flight from Prague to Venice Treviso airport with less than an hour's bus ride from the airport to Venice's bus station. Any by the way, it does not take as long to get through security for these airports as it does in the USA. You will be fine getting to the airport 2 hrs before your flight takes off to check in and get through security & you can shave off 45 mins from that time if you check in online & print your bording passes from the hotel you are staying in.
It looks like you should plan on paper how you will spend each day so you allow enough time for travel and all the other things you must do--including eating and searching for accommodations.
You may feel that you will have extra time, but you won't. Just traveling within each town will require more time than you will allow.
If you look at a map you will see how far Paris is from Prague. You will have to allow more travel time than you expect.
Don't plan to visit any other towns. There will be too much for you to see in those towns and travel in an 7 day time.
I agree with Carl. Have a great trip!
