What is your experience regarding waiting time to purchase tickets to get in the Prado Museum? We are traveling in mid-October and would like to have an idea. Thanks.
We went twice and had no problem purchasing tickets at opening time. Also, after enjoying a peaceful museum for about 2 hours the school classes of ALL ages arrived and more and more tour groups - it was time for us to leave!
As long as it's not a holiday, an October visit shouldn't involve any major lines. I've been there a couple of times in October and haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes.
I had the same experience in late September. Not much of a line at all, mayber 5 or 10 minutes. They had an interesting camera policy though, just fyi. I was able to take my camera in with me, but they seal it in a plastic bag. I found that a rather unique way of preventing visitors from taking photos...
If your schedule allows, it's free on Sunday afternoons. Check their website.
I'm not sure about October...we went in July and the lines weren't bad at all (maybe a 5 minute wait). If I remember correctly, tour groups entered via a separate entrance, so that helps with crowd control. We arrived in the late afternoon. The galleries were busy, but not overly crowded. Have fun!
Visited in November twice during free evenings...maybe a 5 minute wait in a short line to get tickets but then walked right in. You still need a ticket, even when admission is free.
