Potsdam

We arrived in Germany without luggage and after 5 days it's still not in sight. Among the things we're missing are our guide books. As we are currently staying in a very small town no book store carries an English one here and with the holiday a rush order was not possible anymore. We'll pick up an English one for Berlin once we arrive at the train station. But would like to have at least information about Potsdam for the first day there ahead of time. Any suggestions for a good website with tourist information on Potsdam? Has to be printable. My computer time/search time is very limited here. I printed info for Sanssousi already but need some more for a walk around the historic town. The info on the Potsdam tourism page www.potsdam.de was spread over dozens of pages, really difficult to print fast.

Oh, what a bummer! I'm so sorry to hear about your luggage and hope it arrives to you soon.

I have Rick's 2008 Germany book and looked up Potsdam (I haven't been there). While there isn't a ton of information, he gives a website from the Potsdam TI as www.potsdamtourismus.de (and their hours are Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00, Sat-Sun 9:30-14:00; Brandenburger Strasse 3). It might be possible to print out just what you need by highlighting the info with your mouse, right click, and select "Print Selection."

Rick also writes that if you plan on seeing several of the buildings, save money by getting a Premium Day Ticket (€15, available only at the Sanssouci ticket office - the regular day ticket does not include Sanssouci).

His top highlights from Potsdam are:

Sanssouci Palace

New Palace (Nues Palais)

Bornstedt Royal Estate (Krongut Bornstedt)

Cecilienhof

I'm happy to type out everything Rick has from this Germany book (more info on the sights, hours, etc.), just let me know if you think it would be useful. In the meantime, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and your luggage!

Merry Christmas!

Try http://www.cometogermany.com and search for Potsdam. On the right side of the page is a box titled "Travel Planner" where you can build you travel guide and print the pages in .pdf format. Good Luck!

Steve, how do you read a preview of anything in the book? Am I missing something on the website that you put a link to (which is the books.google.com) as it clearly states, "No preview available for this book."

Why put up a link to something that is useless?

Unfortunately, the section on Potsdam -- or any of eastern Germany -- is NOT in the 2010 preview on that site.
