We're a family of 6 (two adults, four kids-19, 17, 14, 12) and we're thinking of spending two weeks in Portugal in mid-August. We like to wander cities and do some hiking in the countryside. Is it too hot to do this? We've spent summers in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Nice, and New York, so we're somewhat used to heat, but would it be just unpleasant to walk for a chunk of the day? We're interested in Lisbon, Evora, Guimares, Coimbra--maybe other spots. What's your experience with Portugal in the summer? What are your recommendations? Thanks!
Hotter than Maine, not as humid as Pensacola, a lot better than Tel Aviv. Do it.
Any suggestions about where in particular? What to do, where to go, etc? We're up for anything--no plans yet.
You might enjoy one of fortress towns along the Spanish border. I spent two nights in Marvao a few years ago and enjoyed the fortress ruins, small town atmosphere, and scenery. You would need a car in that part of Portugal.
