We want to go to Paris this year, and stay outside of the tourist laden central area, but have good Metro access to get there when we want. We have been to a great flea market near the Porte de Vanves Metro stop in the 15th A. Anyone have experience there?
Hi Sue, My wife and I stayed for several days at the Campanile Paris XV hotel near the Bir Hakeem metro stop last May. The area isn't touristy at all, but is only a 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower. It's full of small shops, bars and restaurants and is a great area to see middle-class Parisian life. We went to the The Rue de Grenelle market in the 15th, which is a true neighborhood market where you can buy a mind-blowing variety of fresh, tasty French food. We followed Rick's advice for just about everything, and spend an amazing month in France--it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Bon Voyage!
I too have stayed steps from the metro #8 La Motte-Picquet and #6 Grenelle. There are a handful of ** & *** hotels. Great area with tons of locals. Can' t get better metro/bus access. I would also check out metro #10 CharlesMichels stop. I believe if you google "hotels by Paris metro stops" it gives you hotels by that stop. That's what I did last visit, then used trip advisor for additional help to make a decision. BTW book Paris in a Basket gives a listing of all the markets, days of operation, also rates them.
What if we rent an apartment--no hotels? Suggestions, please!
For apartment rentals I use both vrbo.com and homeaway.com. You can search by arrondissement.
Just looked at my Paris map book. Porte de Vanves is actually at the most southwest corner of the 14th, not the 15th.
