I am traveling to Portugal in mid-July. I will be starting out in Lisbon for sure (probably 2 nights), and ending the trip with the last night in Lisbon. I will be in Portugal for 7 nights total. I'm just not sure if we should head down to Salema, Algarve for a night or two (over-crowded? I know the Algarve is very busy in summer months but not sure about this little town) or skip Salema and maybe head to Rick's other suggested destinations. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
I have been to Portugal multiple times and looking back with your ? in mind I would skip the Algarve for another time. While it is nice with only 7 nites you will spend 2 days for transit & algarve visit. Those days I believe are best used to continue to enjoy Lisbon and surrounds and up to Douro Valley and Porto. Enjoy.
Yep, skip the Algarve, work north.
Head North. You will love Porto and the Duoro Valley. Easy to access the Duoro Valley by train from Porto.
Ditto Ed and Julie. Head for Porto and the Duro valley....after Lisboa.
