Please help with Hotel in Madrid

I will be arriving in Madrid on 09/06/09 and staying 1 night at the beginning of my trip and returning on Friday 09/11/09 to fly out on Saturday afternoon from Madrid
Can anyone recommend a cozy place to stay centrally located? I would like to do a littel sighting but don't have a lot of time in Madrid. I can't afford more than 90.00 euro. Is this at all possible?
Any help will be much appreciated

Hi Virginia,

We visited Madrid in May and absolutely loved Hotel Lope de Vega. It's recommended in Rick, and he lists the prices as in the 150 euro range -- way too expensive. But booking on their website, we stayed in a lovely queen room with bath on a Sunday night for 69 euros, so it's worth checking out.

It may not meet the "cozy" standard, as it is a more businesslike hotel, but it's unique because it's designated a "culture hotel" with a 16th-century literary theme. That sets it apart from your typical accommodations. We thought the service was great, the room was cute and clean, and the location (half a block from the Prado on a quiet street) was PERFECT. Lots of little freebies like amazing bath products and fresh fruit were thrown in.

The only drawbacks: breakfast isn't included, and the nearest metro station is 10-minute walk away.

Check out Hostal Acapulco…haven’t stayed there yet but will be there very soon. Rick recommends it, it’s inexpensive, it’s centrally located on Plaza del Carmen, and it’s number one on www.tripadvisor.com

Others on this forum also like Hotel Europa.

Two places I stay are two star "Hostals" (not hostels) on Plaza Santa Cruz, just steps from Plaza Mayor and about a block from Puerta del Sol. They're on the second and third floors of a block along the plaza, and have been updated in the last couple of years, so they are quite modern. Check out Hostal Santa Cruz and Hostal Cruz Sol. They charge around 45 Euro/night for a single. For reference to their location, go to maps.google.com, switch on their "satellite" view, and copy and paste in these map references (40.41527 -3.70562). You will also be able to use Google Maps' "Street View" to see the location.
