We are planning our first trip to Spain, Barcelona with our two sons ages 24 and 22 and would like some tips feedback on places to stay in Barcelona. What is the best central area? Las Ramblas?

We stayed at the Le Meridien on Las Ramblas and the location was absolutely perfect! We walked everywhere without any problem. La Boqueria market is a block or two away to grab breakfast/lunch and there's a Starbucks around the corner as well.

two- or was it three now?- years ago I was there and the group stayed at La Cathederal, right off the square in front of the Cathederal, two blocks from Las Ramblas...new, good service, nice rooms, convenient location...walk down Las Ramblas to the Columbus statue at the sea.....great, but do watch the pocketbooks...some of the group returned without theirs...other than that, no problem at all.

I stayed at the Hotel Gran Via with my son last August. Less than a block to the subway, same distance to several bus stops, and around the corner from the main plaza. Easy walk to Las Ramblas and many Gaudi sites.
