Nothing like spontaneity...we just decided to pull kids (10 & 14) to pull kids out of school in 2 weeks and go to Paris for 9 days. Besides the obvious sites, what other memorable things should we see? Thank you!
Parc Asterix! Your children are the perfect age to appreciate the adventures of Asterix & Obelix! Many of us Europeans of a certain age have learned and come to love history through the comic books of Goscinni and Uderzo.
The comics are available in English as well, you could have so much fun reading them together, preparing for France.

There are bus tours to Parc Asterix from Paris. Count on it to be a daytrip.
Rick's book, Paris, has a chapter on Paris with Kids.
Doing Paris with children has been a popular subject here over the years, much discussed; and here's a link that takes you to all those past discussions, you can browse more than a hundred prior discussion threads: click here

We took our kids last year and besides the obvious attractions we loved the Paris Muse Louvre tour. Otherwise the the Louvre can be overwhelming, especially with kids. We had a fabulous guide and our kids (9 and 12) were engaged and so interested. They also were fascinated with the Metro and took turns figuring out the routes we would take.
Also, if you have 9 days are you planning to spend all of the time in Paris? We took the fast TGV to Avignon and spent several days in Provence, it was heavenly and the kids liked it as much as Paris. What a wonderful trip you will have, have fun!
both my boys loved the Catacombs. They were both 14 when we took them( seperately) ,, but my daughter was 11 when I took her, and she did not want to go there. I suggest you look it up and ask your kids.
I actually made all my kids do a bit of research. They were informed they were getting a fab europeon holiday,, and that they needed to contribute,, but as we of course were paying for everything( except their own money for gifts) that they each needed to find three sights to see.
My oldest son found the Catacombs and we had to go( as I said that we would respect their wishes and see what they wanted to see, as long as they understood they would have to see things we wanted too,, no sulking etc with museum and church visits) . . I am claustrophobic,, so believe me, it was a sacrifice, LOL but I survived.
My first son also loved the Louvre, and climbing the Towers at Notre Dame. Second son loved the Invalids War Weapons museum, and daughter enjoyed most sight as she is easy going.
