I am planning a 14-day trip to Provence and Nice. And flying to Nice and spending 5 days in the area- Eze and other small towns. Then I really would like to explore some hills town and do some hikings in Provence. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated on car rental (necessary?), base strategy and must-sees in the region. Thanks.
WE just returned from Provence and Languedoc region, an absolutely beautiful place. We rented a car in Avignon (very valuable to us.) We spent our days driving from small town to small town, seeing markets, churchs, castles, wineries, and eating great food. We stayed in Collias (Hotel Les Castellas), Fontain de Vacluse (Hotel Dupote) and Caunes-Minervois, outside Carcassone (Hotel d'Alibert) all hotels were reasonable and very nice. The hotel owners and staff were very helpful and pleased to have us. The food at Hotel d'Alibert was the best we had, simple but delicious. We saw Uzes, CHateneuf-du-Paupe, Gord, Rousilon, St. Remy, La Baux, and countless other small towns. As I said we had a great trip. If you need more info email me.
