Places to visit near Paris in the winter?

We will be staying in Paris for approximately a week at the end of December/early January. Do you have any suggestions of places to visit in the winter for a short day trip or two? We are possibly planning for Versailles and Normandy, but would love other suggestions.

Thank you!

NOrmandy ,, not so good for a day trip, too far,, but doable. Problem is ,, its dark out by about 4.45.. so , and weather can be cold and rainy.. alot of travel with little time to enjoy it..

Versailles is very easy..cheap, close by,, and although the gardens and grounds will not be very nice( in fact many things will be put to sleep, covered etc) it is still definately worth the trip.

Dijon capital of Burgundy is only 1h40 by TGV from Gare de Lyon and is a very nice place to visit, all year round. If you like architecture, museums (the Fine Arts museum is second after the Louvre)churches, old pedestrian streets and parks, you won't be disappointed. Also don't miss the food market (Tuesdays, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays). The best thing to do is go to the Tourist office 2-3 min walk from the train station (there is an old English phone box next to it) and ask for the "Owl's trail" brochure (2.50€). Then follow the steps (small brass triangle with an owl) and they will lead you to the main sites explained in the brochure. Christmas markets will end on the 25th or 26th Dec and then it will be quieter and you might even have some snow. Dress warm since it can be cold and enjoy the Burgundian gastronomy and good wines at the numerous restaurants(with one star Michelin or not), brasseries and wine bars. Or even a simple salad or pasta while enjoying the sight right in front of the Ducal Palace.

I agree with Coco... not only is Dijon neat, but the whole region of Burgundy. We stay there in the Fall, but winter would be nice also.If you are interested in places to stay, send me a PM.The Louhans market is neat, as well as the old villages. Lots of fine restaurants. You can always take the TGV to Beaune and rent a car for a day or 2 and drive around. Totally different than Paris and very relaxing. There is a TGV direct to Beaune and there is one to Beaune that goes first to Dijon.
