We are a young couple traveling to the above places. Does anyone have suggestions of cheap places to stay? In Switzerland we were thinking of going to Bern, Gimmelwald or Zurich. In Liechenstein we were hoping to go to Vaduz. We would like to be close to the train station and the center of town, if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!
When will you be in Frankfurt so I can check and see if a trade fair is in town?
I usually recommend the same places to everyone, but if you want to look, check on www.hrs.com for the best prices, neighborhoods, and availability along with reviews. Some of these are B&B's or pensions.

Also Hotel Monopol which has a nice elegant old world look about it, but is really reasonable with lots of freebies, or Ibis on the Friedensbruche and ask for a room with a river view (it is right on the river)
If you go to Gimmelwald, RS's favorite is inexpensive and has great views and dinners--Walter's Mittaghorn Hotel. Ask for a room with a view over the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It's the only hotel in Gimmelwald. There also a B&B and a hostel.
For Innsbruck definitely try to stay in a Pension. Places close to "downtown" are generally pretty pricey but you can occasionally find some good deals. I have stayed at the Hotel Tautermann, which is nice but expensive (I was there as part of a Ski Europe group). I also stayed at the Pension Prantner (if I remember right) which was quite nice and affordable, but not close to downtown or the train station - the walk would take at least half an hour. Also I am going back to Innsbruck in a couple weeks and will be staying at Pension Paula, I can let you know how that is.
Innsbruck has a very good bus system so I wouldn't worry about being right by the train station or downtown. If you plan on staying out late, you'll want to make sure you know the night bus routes and schedule, but for the most part it's super easy to use the buses there.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. Is Gimmelwald accessible by train? We are heading there from France, and it seems like it is quite difficult to get to. Would it be better if we stayed in Lauterbrunnen? Is so, is it easy to get to Gimmelwald? Anyone have any suggestions of places to stay in Lauterbrunnen? Thanks!
